It’s so nice to have some catch-up time this week.  I took some time to change the look of my blog!  There was also time to create a MySpace account and check out the site a bit.  I also enjoyed browsing through the further reading list and seeing the interesting posts at the Library Success wiki.  I’m also keeping a printed copy of Kathryn Greenhill’s “20 Reasons” http://librariansmatter.com/blog/2007/07/06/20-reasons-learning-emerging-techologies-is-part-of-every-librarians-job/ for professional development.  It’s excellent!

I have had a chance to see some library social networking sites.  They look like a good way to share ideas and communicate library news.  I see how nice it is to have the pictures to go along with the posts, too.  Some of the information I found I might not have found too easily otherwise.  I thought about how social networks could be used for library programs to spark interest in middle and high school students.  It also could give parents an example of a positive way to use social networks.

RSS feeds! What a cool way to keep up with news and blogs! It is a great advantage to have up to date information from sources I look on the web for.  I created a Bloglines account and already have subscribed to six feeds, so I feel like it’s a good first step.  I know I’ll be able to use this technology for my professional development to learn about new ideas in teaching tech classes.  Another way to take advantage of this technology is with a feed to SLJ to keep up to date with their great articles about school libraries.
